Hate Crimes Against Gays
We've got a nasty storm headed our way, so I wanted to ge this posted before we lose power.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center hate crimes against gays are up again. Could this have anything to do with the right-wing diatribes against gay marriage? I don't get it. How does my lifestyle have anything to do with your marriage? Will someone please explain it to me?
Can you explain it to me without quoting the Bible? And if what the Bible says is your only argument, than how do you explain fat Christians? After all, gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins; homosexuality didn't even make the list. That sounds like it is way worse to be fat than to be gay.
Tell me again how my lifestyle is destroying your marriage. Unless your spouse is leaving you for another member of their own gender, your argument just doesn't hold water.
Storm's getting worse--gotta go.
Peace.

Sadly, people exist who just don't like people who aren't like them. Cannot be simply explained, she said, stating the obvious.

Cheryl,
I like your blog and what you have to say about gay marriage. I am a straight male, but have had many gay friends over the years. I am a strong advocate for gay rights as you will see if you look at my blog. You are right. A gay couple's lifestyle or marriage wouldn't affect me or anyone else in the world unless maybe we all slept in the same bed. The right-wing conservatives of this country are destroying our sense of what is right. Today, people adopt the label "conservative" without really knowing what it is as contrasted with liberal. The liberals are responsible for most of the rights that Americans possess today. Further, the "conservatives, i.e. Republicans have been responsible for nearly ALL of the political scandals of our history. Witness the Gold scare of the late 19th century, the Tea Pot Dome scandal, WaterGate, Iran Gate, (those were actual crimes against this country)Reagan, was responsible for the greatest failure of banks and savings and loans since the Great Depression, 94 members of his adminstration were indicted, AND as for his "Mr. Gorbachov tear down this wall" speech. The Soviet Union IMPLODED!! It would have fallen if Ron Reagan had HAD NEVER BEEN BORN. Whew!! Glad to get that off my chest again.
Keep speaking out about gay rights and their right to a civil union. I will. And further, keep speaking out about what these idiots in our government are doing. Also Rush Limbaugh? What a fat, ignoramous. He just throws out sound bites for the less intelligent, the people who would look for someone to blame for their troubles in life or their frustrations. This is potentially a mob mentality akin to the Nazi mentality and the hypnotizing of a whole country with blaming rhetoric and passionate but hateful outlook on the world and their fellow man.

I've gotta agree.
I think most of those that attack gay marraige are not real Christians or they would be focused on cleaning up their lives, not yours.
It is easy to use the Christian name without paying the Christian dues required by a relationship with Jesus.
Those that hate gays will use any excuse, just like those that hate Christians, or Jews, or ....
What is needed is respect for the freedoms of all.

Thank you all for your comments. To csc5502d who thinks eliminating hate crime legislation would "solve the problem": first of all, why are you so upset about hate crime legislation? Are you planning on committing a hate crime? If not, what's your problem? Secondly, if I used your logic, than I should be free to marry, the same as you. The law has singled me out as different, not the other way around. Finally, you didn't answer my question: How does my lifestyle have anything to do with your marriage? Try to stay on topic. Thanks for posting.

From your profile:
"I'm a 50-something retired military white lesbian fiscally conservative Democrat living in the South. My partner and I have been together 25+ years. I am a former Realtor who now owns a small retail business franchise. "
Uh. Yeah... you're a real threat!
I have lots of gay friends, male and female. The only reason I care about someone's sexuality is if I am interested in sleeping with them... othewise, who cares! My gay friends are just as ordinary as my straight friends!
