SOTU 2006

Bush is spewing forth right now on all the network TV stations, so I'm in the next room reading blogs until "Closer" comes on in 20 minutes. Bush will only be halfway through his BS by then; but I just can't stand to hear the mispronounced words and lies come out of his mouth. I'll wait until the pundits condense down what he said and catch it on the news before bed.

Peace.

Alternatives to the State of the Union Address

For those of you who are like me and can't bear to listen to Bush speak, I offer some TV programming alternatives:

On Animal Planet: The Most Extreme...temper tantrums in the natural world.

On the Food Network: Restaurant Makeover...new episode.

On A & E: Dog, the Bounty Hunter (one of my mother's favorite programs.)

and as a sort of poetic justice--on the Travel channel, John Ratzenberger's Made in America showcases how the Bushwacker mower is made.

Peace.

Gay Clay

Here’s a real shocker according to the National Enquirer:  Clay Aiken is gay.  DUH!  That’s the most shocking outing since Rosie O’Donnell…  Give me a break.  I don’t think most of the Clay-mates will care; after all, he still can sing, and it’s not like they were ever gonna actually date him.

Bush: Flip-Flop or Liar?

For those of you who listen to Air America radio, the following is not new; Al Franken has been playing the audio for two days now. But for the benefit of the rest of you, here is the verbatim speech pulled from a press release that ol' Dubya gave about wiretapping in 2004:

Date: 04/20/2004
For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
April 20, 2004
President Bush: Information Sharing, Patriot Act Vital to Homeland Security
Remarks by the President in a Conversation on the USA Patriot Act
Kleinshans Music Hall
Buffalo, New York 9:49 A.M. EDT

“…So the first thing I want you to think about is, when you hear Patriot Act, is that we changed the law and the bureaucratic mind-set to allow for the sharing of information. It's vital. And others will describe what that means.

Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires-a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.”

(Emphasis is mine.)

Okay, is Bush a flip-flopper, a liar, or a criminal? I vote for all three.

And BTW, why are we not hearing about this on the national news? Perhaps they are not aware; I suggest we all tell them.

Peace.

Rummy the Dummy

Okay, I no sooner finished reading about how thin the army is being stretched, when I see old Rumsfeld on TV declaring that the army is in the best shape ever!

What's in the Kool-Aid these guys are drinking?

Oh, and by the way, for all you neocons out there who think it's perfectly fine for the President to eavesdrop on the bad guys:

We think so too.

Only we think they should do it legally, as opposed to the way they are doing it now, which is ILLEGALLY!

Republican Survey

A most unusual piece of mail arrived in my mailbox today--a survey from Senator "Dollar" Bill Frist! It was, of course, a thinly veiled plea for dollars, but I filled it out anyway. It was multiple choice, with no space for comments, but I scrawled my comments into the margins anyway! Then I mailed it back in their franked envelope, so they can pay for the privilege of reading what I think of Dubya's agenda!

I'm not sure how my name showed up on a mailing list of possible "soft touch" people willing to support the greedy, narrow-minded, holier-than-thou neocons, but it sure was fun filling out the survey!

I guess "Dollar" Bill Frist is gathering ammo for his future run at the Presidency; that is, if he can just shake this annoying little "insider trading" investigation...

Happy New Year?

Okay, so I've been dilatory in posting...and have been called to task. I've been reading other bloggers posts and neglecting my own.

Since we are well into 2006, I hope it is turning out to be a good year for you; better than last year, anyway. I'm reserving judgment. I'm thinking 2008 will be the next good year, if we can take back Congress from the radical right.

Speaking of the radical right, I talked to my mother today. She informed me that she listens to (and believes!) Bill O'Lielly. Not that I'm shocked; she still thinks Dubya is an intelligent man, after all. Since my mother is a "Moral Republican" (she votes based on the perceived morals of the candidate--e.g. no to abortion, & no to gay marriage) I asked her why she listens to that
sex pervert O'Lielly? She says she didn't know anything about that. I told her to look it up. She won't, but she'll think about it.
