Finally Fitzmas Time!

With the conviction of Scooter Libby, I thought we'd be celebrating Fitzmas at last! But it seems word is in the air that Scooter made a deal to fall on his sword, no further indictments are in the works, and Bush will simply pardon Scooter as one of his last acts as president. Scooter just needs to stay out of prison while he appeals, and if he can't drag that out long enough, he spend a little time at Club Fed awaiting his pardon.

Life as usual in the Bush administration.

Sigh!

Gays in the Military?

Now that the election is over, the holidays are over, and the democrats are in office, I decided to come out of writing retirement because of an article I read supporting gays in the military.

There have been many articles in support of allowing gays to serve, but this one is different--it was written by the one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff--the highest ranking official in the US Armed Forces.

It was an op-ed piece in Tuesday's New York Times, but I read it--get this--on Military.com! How the world has changed in just a decade! Click here to read the article...

Maybe marriage isn't that far away!

I'm Back!

A lot of stuff has happened since I last blogged; most notably, the mid-term elections. I am greatly relieved that the repuglicans have been voted out; now let's see if the dems don't make a mess of a great opportunity.

Locally, the dems are a mess--several caught taking bribes (again.) Used to be, money scandals belonged to the republicans and sex scandals belonged to the democrats! What is this upside-down world coming to?

Anyway, let's wait and see what happens.

Peace.

Stuff On My MInd

Well, it has been awhile since I've posted. The elections are just around the corner; gas prices are down (coincidence? I think not!) and the political mudslinging is in full swing.

Try to see through the mud to the candidates--none of them is perfect, but pick one that makes the most sense, and please, please, please vote in November.

Oh, and is anybody else as proud of Bill Clinton as I am? It's about time one of the good guys stood up for himself on the Faux News channel. If you didn't see it, here's a link .
Peace.

Vote!

I voted today in early voting. I hope you will take the time to vote as well. I was encouraged to see the long line at the voting center; it took about 30 minutes total.

I am sorry that I voted for Harold Ford Jr, though; I had already voted when I found out he voted FOR the anti-gay marriage amendment. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and the bill was defeated. But I'm done with Junior.

Speaking of gay marriage, have you seen this clip of Jon Stewart of The Daily Show? Stewart is debating the gay marriage issue with William J. Bennett. This piece is priceless! Jon counters every right-wing argument with logic and humor!

Go see for yourself!

Generous Billionaires

Kudos to billionaire Warren Buffett for passing along 85% of his fortune to charity before he passes away. He gave it to Bill Gates' foundation, so he knows for sure it will actually be used for charitable purposes (slim chance Bill will skim any off the top!)

It sure makes Senator "Dollar" Bill Frist from Tennessee look like a whiney crybaby. He wants to repeal the estate tax so he can pass along his millions to his offspring without burdening them with taxes. It only affects estates in excess of $25 million. Waah!

Peace.
